This collection of boxes was available for the first time during the 2015 Centre County Grange Fair. Thanks for the input and ideas for pieces to be featured at next years Grange Fair.
A good number of trees needed to be removed last year before the fair due to insect damage and verticillium wilt. I was able to salvage two white ash trees that grew near the Recreation Building, and a large silver maple that grew just behind the Emporium.
I have picked several different box styles to make from each tree, as each wood has its own bending characteristic. Some of the pieces will also be available with the laser engraving.
This collection of boxes will be available throughout the year, at the Gallery Shop in Lemont.
Salvaging trees and the bending process
Ok, so its been a while since I have been this excited about a pile of wood.
Finished samples from the White Ash and Silver Maple trees
I cut several pieces from each of these logs with the live edge, and will be using them to make a variety of small tables.
Most of the tables can be used as a coffee table or a small indoor bench.
Some of the tables will be on display at the Gallery Shop in Lemont.
